VISITS – PERMANENCE – WORSHIP

Volunteer in the Visits, Permanence or Places of Worship departments: share the history and values of the Cité Saint-Pierre by helping pilgrims and visitors discover this unique site in Lourdes!

Visit

The mission of the Visits department is to welcome and accompany visitors, whether alone or in groups, expected or not. Through visits to the Cité Saint-Pierre, it authentically shares the history and values of the house and of Secours Catholique, while inscribing its mission in the message of Lourdes.

The missions 

  • Welcome and look after visitors
  • Lead the tour
  • Accompany groups to the various celebration sites and give a welcome speech
  • Set up communication tools at Le Partage during visits

Qualities and skills required 

Smile, welcome, listen, care and availability
Oral fluency
Teamwork skills
Good physical condition (lots of walking)

Special constraints 

Irregularity of activity (peak and off-peak periods)
Adaptation to unforeseen events and changes

Easter to October
15 days minimum
Proficiency in one or more foreign languages desirable

Permanence

The Permanence is an essential reception point for pilgrims, volunteers and visitors. It provides a shuttle service between the Sanctuary (opposite the Porte Saint-Joseph) and the Cité Saint-Pierre, facilitating access and discovery of the latter.
It is also a place of listening and support, sometimes welcoming people in distress.

The missions 

  • Welcome and guide pilgrims and visitors to the Cité Saint-Pierre
  • Promote the Cité Saint-Pierre
  • Transcribe visitors’ reservation requests, checking with the service manager for availability
  • Receive donations and Mass intentions
  • Manage and collect trunks according to procedures

Places of worship

The mission of the Places of Worship department is to prepare and support religious celebrations at Cité Saint-Pierre. It ensures the upkeep of spaces dedicated to prayer and liturgy, as well as the proper preparation of services.

The missions 

  • Prepare what’s needed for celebrations (Masses, prayer times and the Sacrament of the Sick)
  • Wait for and accompany groups
  • Collect collections according to strict procedures
  • Maintain and ensure the cleanliness of the various places of worship and sacristies

Qualities and skills required 

Smiling, welcoming, caring and available
Teamwork
Respect for the sacred
Good physical condition (lots of walking)
